You will need a pen and paper ready at hand, then press 100 and press ‘Enter’ on the meter.
The prepaid meter will display your meter number, scrolling automatically from right to left. The display will repeat one more time so you can confirm the number as you wrote it.
Other short codes are:
004 + ENTER – Displays cumulative KWH consumed
007 + ENTER – Displays the maximum power limit setting.

You can now purchase power units for your KPLC prepaid meter using your phone! Here is how to buy Kenya Power & Lighting Company (K.P.L.C) power units on your mobile phone:
Using M-PESA:
Step 1:
Go to M-PESA menu and select “Pay Bill”
Step2:
Enter the KPLC prepaid business number 88 88 80 and press OK
Step 3:
Enter the 11 digit pre-pay meter number of your power meter that you wish to top up and press OK
Step 4:
Enter the amount of money you wish to spend to purchase the power units (between Ksh. 250 and Ksh. 35,000) and press OK.

Closing your electricity account
It is important to close your account when vacating premises to enable new occupants open their own account(s). Closing your account checks fraudulent use of electricity in your name.
How to close an electricity account
To close your account you will need:
A copy of your National Identity Card
For corporate customers, copies of their Personal Identification Number (PIN) certificate and Certificate of Incorporation will be required
Your account number

If you need to have another meter in your premises seperate from the current one, fill in and sign the Enquiry for supply of electricity form and attach the following:
copy of your national ID
copy of your Personal Identification Number (PIN)
copy of title deed/ sales agreement / allotment letter / lease certificate
electricity bill from the premises / plot
well detailed route / sketch map to your premises
letter of authorization from the landlord / agent and a copy of his/her ID (if a tenant)
