Candidates who sat for their KCSE in the year 2009 can now check if what Universities they have been admitted to from the Joint Admission Board’s  (J.A.B) website.

They are only required to enter their Index number to check what University they have been admitted to and for what course.

    There seems to be a problem with the JAB website after the upgrade on university of Nairobi website. I hope JAB will get its own domain soon and stop using a sub domain from University of Nairobi.

      @Nyamongo, you can however be allowed to apply for university admission during revision of courses at a fee of Ksh. 800. The revision usually takes place at provincial headquarters. The dates for this revision are yet to be released as at 16th May 2011.

      @Kirui, you can apply for University admission during course revision at a fee of ksh. 800. The dates for this revision are yet to announced as at 16th May 2011.

      UON admits JAB students in mid October, in this case it is mid October 2011 for KCSE 2009 candidates.

    What is this all about 2010 KCSE doing there revision application online. Clearly, when is the revision date due and what of the double intake expect to take this year-is it going to occur?       Please get in touch with the Students Welfare Authority (SWA) immediately. If you can, pay them a visit. The headquarters are at University of Nairobi’s Main campus along State House road.

      KCSE 2009 candidates joining Moi University are to report sometime in August 2011. If your admission letter delays further, you can visit the University to collect a copy. Please do this well in advance ot the reporting dates to have ample time to meet all admissions requirements.

    Thanks Timpata for your concern.Am UoN prospective student under JAB.The application for accomodation form to be filled online at smis.uon.ac.ke is the one with the problem,they say i use the registration number as username and index number as password but ounce i do that it says wrong username and wrong password.They say i should do it as fast as possible for me to secure a hostel.There is also type of hostel between single, double, prefabs, quadraple and partitioned.also amount of loan that i want from helb(what is maximum i should not exceed. please assist.my email pkinuthia65@gmail.com

      @Peter: If you are unable to log in, I suggest that you visit the UON SWA headquarters in Nairobi at University of Nairobi main campus grounds. Do not take chances with accomodation since it is given on first come first served basis. Single room means you have a room alone, double means one room shared by two, Prefabs are some houses at main campus made of timber (considered lower class, Mainly given to first years), quadraple means one room shared by 4 persons, partitioned means one room partitioned to accomodate more than one person…(usually less spacious).

      On HELB, I suggest that you call them up for clarification. Their contacts are: 0733 205292 / 0722 205292

      @Wilson Too: That is serious for a school to misplace your results slip. I suggest that you consult your schoo area education officer for guidance on this e.g the District Education Officer. (DEO)

      @Athi, to collect a copy of your admission letter, you visit the Universities MAIN CAMPUS.

    I chose,comp tech,civil engineering,electric engineering and IT to university branches. will i secure a chance with this courses and i had a B+ OF 70 points with an agregate points of 41.0

      @Enock The competition for the courses you chose is too high and from your mean grade, your chances are slim. However, if you are KCSE 2010 candidate, please wait for JAB to release the cut-off points for your 2010 class. In the meantime, I advice that you seek career guidance on what other courses that you qualify for that you can take or what other avenue you can follow to achieve the same e.g bridging, starting with a Diploma e.t.c. Consult a friend who is already in employment to guide you.

    @Kirui Dixon, you do not have to deffere your University degree to do CPA. Many University students are doing CPA in their part time. They simply register for evening CPA classed in the many CPA colleges especially in Nairobi or better still, they just book the examination, get CPA notes and study on their own. It is not a wise decision to deffer your University admission for that reason. That is my point of view though!

    TO book a room at UON online, start here: http://smis.uonbi.ac.ke/
    enter user name as your registration number (given by Universsity in your admission letter) and the password is you KCSE index number. then go to “BOOK ROOM” tab.

    @Okendo, That is highly unlikely.

    @Athi: You can secure a job with the governemnet as a civil servant, or better still, you could get a Job with NGO’s practising in that field.

    mines is an issue that’s greatly troubling me.I was opening my HELB account for loan application form,the problem is that i have for the past years used only two names e.g. in my national id, birth certificate,school academics,kcpe/kcse certificates.The loan application requires a person to provide three names otherwise the next page wont load, please advise me on what to do.

    @Victor: the deadline for first time applicants is 31st July 2011. However if your letter takes much longer, please visit the UON admission offices to get a copy.

    @Okendo: Please refer to the University admissions office for the exact reporting date. However, it should be around mid-October 2011.

      @ Abonyo: I just called JAB today 27th May 2011 and they have not advertised when the revision of courses will take place. They just mentioned that it could be some time in June 2011 and that they will adverstise in the papers to notify all candidates. Tell your sister not to be overly anxious and to confirm every rumour with the Joint Admissions Board (JAB) on Tel: 020 318262.

      @Bryana, It is possible to defer your admission. You will need to apply for deferrment from the University’s admission offices after you have received the letter of offer (Admission letter).

On 15th May, I visited the JAB offices at the UON and they told me revision and new application was due next Month.     @Kim and Maxwell, Kindly be patient. JAB is yet to release the cut off points for KCSE 2010 candidates.
    @KIM, be advised: no university offers CPA as a degree course. You study CPA from business colleges. Many university students opt to study their degree full time and study CPA during their part time.
    @Maxwell, I am sorry about the disappointment, however please be on the lookout in newspapers an advert that JAB will place stating the dates for the revision of courses. As of Friday, 27th May 2011, no date for the revision had been set. In future, it is always important to make a call to any office before you make travel arrangements just to confirm that indeed you will get the assistance you need. That is why In The Timpata we always direct our visitors to the telephone contacts of the institutions they are seeking help from.

    @Nancy: Well I suggest that you call the University to findout about that just so that you are sure.

      @Dansan, I am not a certified career advisor. I will however give you my opinion. Meteorology usually has few students mainly due to the fact that your job market is limited mainly to civil service. However, due to this, the few graduating candidates easily get jobs. Industrial chemistry on the other hand has a greater job market, comparatively. The challenge is that the transfer is not always guaranteed. You may end up taking meteorology whose advantages are as stated above. I hope you will now make a more informed decision.

    @Dansan, The system should have a way of confirming that your application was successful either online e.g a message on your computer or a print out after you hit the submit button. It is advisable to print this message for your own record.

      @Peter, First congratulations for you good performance. I understand the anxiety in choosing a career. However my advise is that first understand yourself and know what you really love doing or what you are good at. Then check whether you qualify for that or not. That and only that should be the basis of your decision. The whole idea of marketable and non marketable courses is not always the best basis for career choice. Example: Someone who loves computers is best doing an IT related course and be sure of success both in employment and in self employment since they are doing what they love meaning they are self motivated. Once you identify what it is you love most, pursue a career related to it and put all your focus on it.

      This applies to all candidates facing the big challenge of choosing a career. However, please note that this is a personal and not professional advise.

    Hi timpata. I did my kcse in 2010.due to the double intake,i’m worried that i wont raise the required amount of money. would i be able to access the helb loan just before joining the university? Secondly, i had an A- of 79 with a cluster point of 46.1. Is it possible for me to get civil eng,architectuaral studies,mechatronic eng or mechanical eng in one of the main campuses without being taken to a constituent college? Lastly, is there a possibility of having a 2nd revision of courses.thanx

      @Sammy Kamau: JAB will definitely synchronize the double intake (in case there is a double intake) with HELB to ensure you can apply for a loan before joining campus. I advice that you wait for the cut-off points which JAB will release before revision of courses for KCSE 2010 candidates so that you can make an informed decision on what you qualify for.

    There is a male student here with me who scored 68 points in the 2010KCSE exams and is really scared about the double intake. Please advise, what is the cut-off mark/point proposed by JAB for their intake into Public Universities?

      @Dave: Tell the student to be patient. JAB is yet to issue the cut-off points for KCSE 2010 candidates. They will problably do this when they announce the date for revision of courses. As of now, that information is not available.

      @Esther: The reporting date for Moi University JAB-admitted students is 29th August 2011. Yes, you will have to travel to Eldoret to collect your letter. However, it is advisable that you contact the admissions office before you travel, just to confirm that indeed you will get served to avoid dissapointment. Call them on 254 (0)53 43363 / 43620.

      @Martin, Firstly it is important that you know why you chose BA. If it was your choice, and you like it, then you should be proud of it no matter what your friends think! Uf you have to change from BA, then do it because YOU prefer another course not because pressure from friends. BA is not necessarily bad, however given your qualification, you are better of doing a more specified BA e.g BA Economics instead of BA (general). You can do an interfaculty transfer immediately after reporitng in campus. Contact the admissions office of your University immediately after reporting for directions on this.

    My problem is I dont really know the courses that i wil take,i sat for my kcse 2010 and i got a B+ of 69point I wanted to do bachelor of commerce, but i don’t even know how to calculate my clusta and i think i dont qualify for the above course.       @Francis: Your chances for taking B.Com are slim. However, JAb is yet to release the cluster points to be used for KCSE 2010 candidates. This I believe will be released the same date that JAB announced the date for revision of courses for KCSE 2010 candidates. You will be charged Ksh. 800 for application for university admission which should happen during revision of courses for those who applied while in school.

      @Encok, if the two are separated, it only means that the University does not offer the two as one and you have to choose either.

      Abby: Yes you have to wait for the admission form because part of the HELB loan application process requires you to enter you University Registration number which will be provided in the admission or notification letter.

However, for those who have already sat their KCSE exam and did not qualify to study medicine should not lose hope. Medicine is just but one of the many other ways you can serve mankind. There are many other vocational careers that are equally important. Doctors need lawyers too! Besides, every hospital has an Accountant

      @The cut off point for KCSE class of 2010 have not been released yet and it is hard to tell whether or not you qualify for the mentioned course. However JAB indicated that this could be released in June.

      @Abby: At the course revision centers the cut off points will be availed. But my advice, be there early to avoid the crowdig usually witnessed in these centers. There will also be a few people you can consult. The Timpata will soon post how to calculate weighted cluster points. Soon.

      @David, no admissions have been made as yet. KCSE 2010 candidates are only revising their University Applications then JAB will do the shortlisting thereafter.

      @Stacy: 1.6 is painfully close to the required mark! However due to the competitive nature of Medicine, such a slight difference might mean a lot. You could try nursing. I believe you can use your waiting card as a form of identification.

      I cannot guarantee whether you will be selected or not since that will depend on what JAB. However I feel that your mean grade is quite low for that course given its competitive nature. I suggest that you confirm from past weighted cluster points released by JAB that you indeed qualify (Read update 8 in this post: http://www.thetimpata.com/2011/06/06/jab-announces-the-dates-for-revision-of-courses-for-kcse-2010-candidates/ )Whether you will revise or not depends on whether you are comfortable with the choices you made in the first place.

      @Joseph: Yes. It is possible to change the course after reporting within the first few weeks. It is called an Inter-faculty transfer. Please contact the admissions department of your university immediately after reporting on how to do this.

      @Catherine: Admissions have not been made for KCSE 2010 candidates. What you see on the JAB website are the courses as you chose them while in school. The revision of courses is going on at provincial headquarters till 18th June 201.

      @Sammy: Different courses have different cluster subjects. As such you might have 46.1 in one set of cluster subjects and slightly higher or lower in another set. As such chances of you missing all 4 choices are slim.

      @Rosalid: I do not know how important those two are in the loan processing. However, to be on the safe side, I suggest that visit HELB offices for assistance. You may try calling first but majority’s experience is that their calls have gone unanswered!

    I have a 2009 KCSE student who received a letter of admission to Chepkoilel University College stating that the 1st years would report on 1st August 2011 however, a friend informed me that there was an advertisement by Chepkoilel on the Sunday Nation of 26th June 2011 indicating the 1st years would now report on 11th July 2011 and the rest of students on 18th July.I have searched for the Sunday Nation but I have not succeeded in getting a copy .Please update me of the exact reporting date for first year students of Chepkoilel and possibly get me their contacts,thanks in advance.

    I sat for my in 2008. I was admitted to egerton university. I applied for the HELB loan but never got it since i submitted my form late. On checking the helb website using my id number i found out that my loan had been disbursed but i never got it. I also noted that my form serial number had been incorrectly placed. I wish i culd submit my id number but due to confidentiality i cant. Culd u giv me an direct email so that i may send to u if required. What will i do bcoz i’ll hv to pay for a loan i neva recieved. I’ll b greatful 4 ur assistance

      @Anthony: There are several options: May be the loan was disbursed but never reached your bank (its highly unlikely) or you actually did not receive the loan at all.

      My suggestion is that first, try calling HELB to see if you can get explanations on this.

      If this does not work, file a complaint with HELB. You will need your initial application form Serial Number (I hope you still have it) and bank statements for the account whose number you gave when applying for the loan for the period dating as far back as the month you applied for loan. This will act as proof that indeed no money was received in your account from HELB.
      It will also be nice to get a printed statement of your loan account from HELB from which you will highlight the mistaken amounts. With all these documents in place you can now successfully argue your case.

    @Faith: It is unlikely that JAB will handle Inter University Transfers for continuing students mainly because JAB is involved in the ADMISSION process. In this case Faith, I suggest that you contact your University’s admissions department or registrar’s office for details.

      Agribusiness Management could be a good course. You could get employment in agriculture oriented organisations e.g Horticulural farms, in NGO dealing in agriculture e.t.c. But like any other course, you have to have a passion for it to excel.

      @Omarion: I understand that once HELB receives your application form and it is processed, you are supposed to receive an email notofcation. I hope you addressed your letter correctly and that you are checking your mails (the email address you provided in the application form) often.

      @Martin: Well not really. Provided you indicated your registration number in your application form correctly, then probably that was an error with the mailing system at HELB at the time of sending out that Email.

      @Samie: You can transfer to another course after joining the University. This is called inter-faculty transfer. However, chances of success in an inter-faculty transfer are less. It is unlikely that any student qualified for University admission will not be admitted.

      @Gracie: Inter faculty transfer processes vary from one University to another. You will need to consult the two Universities, the one you are transferring to and the one you are transferring from, for more detailed information on this. However, be advised that most of this transfers take place within the first few weeks of reporting. As such get the information early enough.

    Hi admin,during my applying loan i typed my reg no. Wrongly on my helb form. Recently i checked my disbursement status and saw that i got 45k is it always reflected in the bank immediately? And what happens to the money which is always disbursed to the school account? Pliz help

      @Alexx, It may take some time and could vary from bank to bank. You can always confirm with your bank how soon to expect the cash. Part of the loan meant for Tuition is credited directly in your school’s account and the school then issues a receipt for the same. The rest of the loan is what is deposited in your personal bank account.

    Hi timpata.i wanted to apply for helb loan but i dont have an id.already i processed the id printout from nssf building. Since i dont have a bank account, culd i use my brothers a/c no on my helb form?

      Hi Sammie: That is not a good Idea. The best is when you have your own bank account.
      A quick suggestion is for your to open a ‘YEAH’ Account – (meant for the youth with cooperative bank). If you are in Nairobi, simply dash to Cooperative bank Kimathi branch, next to Nation Center and ask for Mary (She sits at the customer service desk), you could mention you were sent by The Timpata.

      Simply walk in with your original ID and walk out with your own bank account in minutes!

    i am unable to download the HELB application form. I did KCSE in 2010 and am due to report in 2 weeks to KU. i haven’t attained the age of 18 yet so i don’t have an ID yet. can i apply for Helb without ID number and can use my minor account to get my Helb money?

      @Vincent: Sometimes we aim at the son and land on the moon. Try sourcing for funds, organise a find raiser, consult the CDF bursary kitty. Remember, you still can enroll in a college first then do your degree there after.

      @Julie: JAB is yet to announce the cut off points for KCSE 2011 candidates. In case you qualification is just on the line or slightly less, your chances of admission for the course under the regular program are slim.

      @Njoki, It is still quite early to determine that. However, going by what happened last year, some universities (e.g KU) MIGHT admit their first year class late this year. However, kindly be patient as each University will soon give its admissions dates. The Timpata will keep you updated.

    I sat for KCSE in 2011 then unfortunately my results were delayed. I recieved the official results this month. I passed with a B+ how can I apply for the JAB admission. Please advice

      @Edwin Wekesa, the official time for such application closed on 31st May 2012. I suggest that you visit JAB offices at University of Nairobi main campus admissions office for assistance.

    I did my KCSE in the year 2006 and scored a B plain of 66 points. Though i didn’t get my admission letter from UON but was told that i was admitted there. I was unable to reach you at that time because of the situation. Pliz confirm for me if its true that i was among the 2008 ADMISSION?? If true can i get that chance now?? Desperate please help.
