PDF format documents are used to transfer documents and prevents the documents from being edited in transit or better still from losing the formatting as they are viewed across different document viewing applications. However, we all at one point wish to have the information in PDF files converted in a more ‘edit-friendly’ file e.g Microsoft Word. Yes it is possible!

The reverse is also true, you can convert any Microsoft Office document to PDF. I mean any including MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, MS Word etc.

I am sure you cant wait to learn how, well this is it I hope you are on Windows XP:

PDF to MS WORD

To convert any PDF file to MS Word, you need to download a free pdf to word converter software. It’s only 1.07 MB in size and you can get it here. Click on Site1, Site2, or Site3 and your download will start immediately.

Once the download is complete, trace the application in your downloads folder and double click to start an installation wizard:

Follow through the installation till the end. The application will launch automatically after the installation process. If it doesn’t check on your desktop for the Pdf to Word converter icon and double click to start the application.

You should now see the Pdf2word window:

On this window, select the PDF file you wish to convert as indicated in “Select PDF for conversion”. In the “Output DOC file” choose where you wish to save the new Word document. By default the application saves in the same folder as the PDF file.

Choose your options under “select options”. Leaving the default is good enough.

You are now set, click “Convert to Word Document” and there you are!Your new MS WORD document will open immediately the conversion is complete.

Just like that! :)

CONVERTING TO PDF FROM ANY MS OFFICE FORMAT.

At times you may want to have a document in PDF to enjoy the advantages of a PDF file format. I will explain to you how you can do this as simply as the way you print a document using the “doPDF” software!

This software adds a ‘printer’ in your system. This means that whenever you want to print a document, “doPDFf” will be in the list of printers available for this, only that instead of sending the document to a physical printer, doPDF converts the document to a PDF format instantly!

Lets get started by installing the doPDF software,  a 3.96 MB size file available here for free! Install the software using the installation wizard which is pretty straight forward but NOTE: During installation you will be asked whether to make doPDF your default printer. If you select this option, whenever you click on “Print” the default action will be to convert to PDF since the default printer is “DoPDF”. This option can be changed later(windows XP) by going to START and selecting “Printers and Faxes”. You can then select your default printer by right-clicking against its icon and selecting “Set as default printer”.

Once the installation is complete, do not expect the application to launch! What you need to do is open the document you wish to convert to PDF. Assuming its a MS Word document. Open the document ensure that you have done all the necessary editing and formatting:

Print the document (CTRL+P)

You get this dialog box:

If during installation you selected doPDF as your default printer, it will be the printer selected under “name”. If not, select it from the list. and click Ok.

This opens the doPDF dialog box:

Browse the folder you wish to save the new PDF File, you can leave other settings as is and click OK. and thats all!

Here is the PDF format of your MS Word document:

Its that simple :)

Looks like Julian Assange will at least be out on bail any minute but what about Bradley Manning? Solitary jail for 7 months so far without being convicted of anything, without a trial, even. That’s bad!
